My association with JPMA started when I had a meeting with Dr. Sarwar Zuberi in 2001 at a conference. She listened to my suggestions and invited to come to JPMA office on next saturday. I promised. She called after a few weeks and reminded me of my promise.
This was my first visit to a medical journal\'s office in Pakistan. It was a bit disappointing to see a two room, poorly lighted office with a two member staff. I was surprised how this office and team was source of the only indexed journal in Pakistan. I realized it was Dr. Zuberi and her team with commitment and zeal that managed to do so over years and years. I received unexpected and warm reception at the office that became basis for my weekly visits to JPMA office. Most remarkable of Dr. Zuberi was an outstanding team including Dr. Fatema Jawwad and Dr. Huma Qureshi who took this journal to a higher level after her sad demise.
I was involved with JPMA web site for few years. We were able to get online issue at the same time as hard copies. JPMA has played strong role in growth of medicine in Pakistan. I would like to mention JPMA special issue on Neurology in Pakistan. This was followed by issue on Stroke in Pakistan and cerebral venous thrombosis. These issues received world wide recognition and citations in international journals.
The volume and quality of submissions is increasing and now journal is always published on time. JPMA has to look beyond that. It is time that JPMA editorial team get together to look into vision and future of JPMA for next 10 years. It has the potential to become a journal with impact factor and play substantial role in health policy making in Pakistan.
