A torch of learning research was lit in 1951 when our PMA pioneers brought the first ever medical publication — The Journal of Pakistan Medical Association. And, it was only after dedicated efforts of JPMA officials then that it became the first ever indexed medical journal in the country. It is indeed a great effort on the part of present JPMA team that it is acknowledging 60 years of services of those who contributed towards this publication. Though, team work is more effective and successful but individual services are also countable. Who can forget the services of Late Dr. Serwar Jahan Zubairi. She edited JPMA for 30 years and set out standard for successors to follow an uncompromising pathway not to entertain cooked papers with dubious credentials. Truly, the present Editor Dr. Fatima Jawad and her team is on right path.
It is an established fact that the world civilization very much owe to the doctors who have contributed a great deal of services to humanity, and I believe we deserve a space amongst them. I hope the torch that we lit 60 years ago would continue to enlighten the medical profession for years to come.
